Approaches
At Unique Learning we are trained in award winning approaches to work towards the best functional-emotional-educational outcome for our clients.
We work with a wide variety of individuals who present with an immense range of presenting concerns. These may be: difficulties with concentrating, sitting still, speaking, communicating, memorizing, writing, catching a ball, reading, doing mathematics, having anxiety, being obsessive-compulsive, being distracted by sounds, moving in an uncoordinated way, and many more. These difficulties, let’s call them “irregularities”, usually find their root cause in inefficient functioning of some areas in the brain. At Unique Learning we specialize in identifying these inefficient areas of body/brain functioning. Once these are determined we can advise the client which therapeutic model would suit the best. The approaches can be used individually or we can tailor them into an integrative program towards each client’s unique needs. The approaches that we use at Unique Learning are mostly developmental in nature. During the early years reflexes play an enormous supportive role in brain development. If irregularities with reflex integration are present some developmental building blocks might not be optimally supportive and become root causes of developmental delays and emotional-behavioural difficulties. At Unique Learning we are also trained in working with primitive reflexes as well as some more mature reflexes. Educational StrategiesAt Unique Learning we are well aware that a big part of a child’s day is spent at school. With irregularities in functioning present these school hours can be tiring, frustrating and stressful for the child but also for the teacher! Teachers are well trained to teach but often long for a better understanding of “why certain kids function differently” and “how to go about supporting each child in the best way”. At Unique Learning, we have a strong educational background as well as master multiple therapeutic modalities. Therefore, we can offer our clients a truly unique concept of combining the knowledge of therapeutic science with educational strategies. We gladly work together with school teams to help them understand the root causes of why a child might be having a hard time and can advise which didactic method will likely provide the best learning outcome for our client.
